Growing nasturtiums with the GROW Project, May report

Yet another late report ... Did I ever mention I have ADHD? (I do. Really.)

My Spitfire nasturtiums, an  exclusive from seed suppliers Renee's Garden, began struggling in May. We had record breaking heat, not to mention horrible humidity, and that took a toll on most of the annuals. I'm not sure whether the Spitfires will even make it into July. The GROW project sent them out in March, which is really too late for this climate; ideally, I would have planted in October or November.

The photos illustrate that these sweet little plants are not really thriving.

Maybe they'll reseed for you and pop up next spring. It's a special plant that can take South Florida heat.

I wouldn't be surprised if they do reseed for you. They're one of my favorite annuals for winter with their cheerful colors.

You know, I don't think I've ever had a nasturtium reseed, but it would be lovely if it happens. Either way, I'll be starting new seeds in the fall.

I also started some seeds very late this year, and three of them actually growed bigger. But now they are not looking good. Maybe it is the heat as you mentioned. It even has not flowered yet. Anyway, I did save some seeds, so I will try again this fall.

Hey, Ami. What variety are they?
